I'd like to say that this stamp is misleading. I don't want anyone to hide that they like Twilight, stop liking Twilight, or anything like that. If you want to like Twilight, more power to you. If you think it's a great book, good for you. f you think it's a paradigm of literature, I stand by my stamp. People can like it all they want, though.

I think what annoys me most about Twilight is the rabid fanbase which insists it is the epitome of good literature. The sane fans who admit the writing sucks and the characters are cardboard cutouts (but still love the book) are my heroes, because they are able to admit that their favorite book isn't Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Woolf* rolled into one shining beacon of classical literature.

See, the funny thing is, it IS possible to love something but admit it's stupid. Take me, for example. I've been a die hard SailorMoon fan for over a decade. Is it stupid? Often, very. The daily monsters, the stock transformations, the sheer idiocy of the main character to go to every possible obvious trap make me cringe. Do I still love it? Hell yes. I can admit SailorMoon has many flaws, because I am secure in my liking of it.

If you have to defend your fandom regardless of whatever solid, researched reasoning someone might throw at you (and you would be surprised how many actually researched articles are out there on Twilight's flaws), you obviously aren't secure in your fandom and need to take a hard look at why you love the series. Unfortunately, I've seen this blind, disturbing defense in the Twilight fanbase more often than the sane appreciation of what the book really is; a fluff piece, meant to be read in one sitting and forgot in a day.

Speaking of accepting jokes at a fandom's expense, everyone should check out Robot Chicken's SailorMoon skits. They're pretty raunchy, but they're hilarious.

*Or insert whatever classical writers your country might have. World literacy FTW!

Well, there are some classics that I do not like. Be it the subject, or the writing, there are some highly renowned books that I just could care less about. Treasure Island is one; gods I couldn't stand having to read that! Pirates do not interest me. Then again, there are some books that I personally think are examples of good story telling, and they are not popular or recommended reads at all! Anne McCaffrey and Mercedes Lackey come to mind. While grammar and spelling have a basis and some slight unchangable rules, I think how one tells a story is - like with visual art - up to the author. (I don't know, I could be wrong; there may very well be rules to the written word beyond grammar and spelling and I am unaware of it yet.)

As I work for Border's right now, most of the people who've I had the pleasure to speak with loved the book and/or the movie, and if it was the latter, they were picking up a book to see what the original story is about. I am not interested in vampires, 'cause frankly - I think the whole vamp/vampirism thing is overrated in many more ways than one. Still, the interested others have shown me is tickling my fancy. I may purchase the book and see what all the hub-bub is about. Could it be that the movie 'sucked' because of the script, actors and/or directing? Does the book really 'suck' because of poor writing and development. I cannot say, as I've yet to read it. I got to skim it, but - I would not say anything due to nothing really catching my eye to remember.

One thing a nay-sayer said that irked her about the series was that in the books, vampires 'sparkle' in the sun. Personally, I think that's creative - even if a bit soft or 'fluffy.' Other than that, no one really has given me any other concrete reasons for disliking the book, except how it's told and the characters seem bland and unreal. (I like to write and the only creative writing class I've so far been into gave bad reviews of my work - from what I remember, the more sensible and mature comments being that it was confusing to follow.) Now, I'm not saying that there couldn't be an alignment of 100 stupid people at any time (it happens much more than not, I do believe), but - the books have to be worth something to have made it thus far. And, some people do like 'fluff' - I guess I'm one, in some ways (or to some degree.) I do recall one person saying that the movie (and she was purchasing to the check out the book) was very romantic - she liked the portrayal of such in the movie.

To sum up, I could have just said 'it's all in the eyes of the beholder.' I cannot give my personal analysis or review, 'cause I have yet (if I choose to) read it; I don't believe I'd be interested in the movie, 'cause from what I've seen - I'm bothered by 'the look' the actor who portrays Edward gives to his character. I will also say that my first initial thoughts about the main character, the girl, was that she was naive and stupid - no one gets my blood except myself and then someone who needs a transfusion if it ever comes down to it or I get the courage to donate at a blood drive. I don't care how much I love the person; no vampires and/or vampirism with me or in my presence. The girl seems unbelievably - in need of a whack to the head. But, love knows no bounds...

Anyhow, I'm definitely a skeptical neutral on this one. Though, a very wordy one! :lmao:

The twilight fanbase kinda reminds me of the rabid fandom of Avatar. Granted that Avatar is good, but people that were Zutara fans (the type of Zutara fans that had no sense) literally became upset and said that they weren't going to buy the box set just to spite Mike and bryan.

WTF? Seriously? Is that all the reason you watched Avatar?? Not for the dynamic story line and fantastic art in this animated series? Sure the shipping was a bonus, but do you not understand the great depth that this story has? Whatever *rolls eyes*

I like Twilight too, and I will admit it does have some hammy lines. But it's still a good series. i definitely wouldn't relate it to Shakespeare....nobody can really be compared to shakespeare (my own opinion). But i'm just plainly a sucker for sappy love stories. But Now that i've seen the movie, I could care less about the vampire. I just want the wolf boy XD

But YOU, my dear, are my bestest friend because you can admit that Twilight isn't the end-all of literature. I'm totally biased, because I hate it. I'll admit it has its moments and I'll even say it might be (completely objectively) better than I think. HOWEVER, I stand by my opinion that it isn't as good as so many of the fans say.

Same thing for, I don't know, Lord of the Rings. I ADORE LoTR but it can really bore you to tears sometimes. Good old J.R.R. describes stuff so much that someone who doesn't like description might hate the books. I've seen it many, many times. I can debate calmly about why I love the series without throwing a fit. Just like you, and the other sane fans, can do for Twilight.

I didn't even COMPLETELY hate Twilight. I liked Alice, Angela, Carlisle, Charlie, Eric, Esme, Jacob, Mike, Renee, Tyler . . . pretty much anyone who isn't Bella or Edward (or their TWU LURVE), so I'm not even a totally anti-fan. XD

Oh i hear ya on the LotR. I'm not even going to attempt to read the series because when i saw the movies, i was yawning a couple times. It did have it's great moments in the movie.

I liked all the characters actually. I just think that some people are making too much of Bella and Edward. That's like if i wrote an in-depth love story about myself and my bowl of mac & cheese some would possibly flail over that. XD

Some people just absolutely love that candid relationship between the hunter and its prey; opposites attracting. Eh...That kinda lost it's spark for me after Usagi and mamoru XD They teased and fought with each other, then they find out that they're SUPPOSED to be lovers and then they magically fall in love :|...psh ok Same thing with Zuko and Katara. The only thing that attracts me to that ship is that Zuko and katara have that potential to be one-night standees :P; hit it then quit it, but still hot

I just don't see all the hipe in the book. Course, I've never read the book, but I've flipped trough some of the pages. Everyone at my school LOVES it. I'm really getting tired of it...

I'm going to read them all so that I can honestly say I hate the whole series, not just the one book. XD

I will admit there's a lot of things that would only appeal to the younger readers that annoy me. There's too much Mary-Jane type things going on. I like Bella, but she's just too stereotypical and not very bright. Edward - Good character for fluff, but at the same time, he needs to be deeper and he also needs to show more of the vampirism we know and love.

There's many other things I could pick at, but to save time (of both you as the creator of this and me as the writer), I'll leave them out.

I am a big fan, but I'm not psycho about it.

I respect you and want to hug you. You are a fan; I am not, but I can understand why you like the series and the things about it which are good. I was just in a bad mood when I made this stamp. I still stand by my opinion, but I guess some people would think books I like are stupid. Oh well.
